We timed how long it takes a small team to book one meeting by email. It was longer than the meeting.
We asked eight small teams to log every message they sent to book a client meeting for two weeks.
The average booking took 4.2 messages and 38 minutes of someone's time, spread over a day and a half. The average meeting it booked was 30 minutes long.
